Longings.

I so much longed for beautiful little feet with no lines of hardships and losses etched on it, tattooed just above my navel. Days and nights slipped away as I ran my fingers over it and imagined, how it would be if a small little one took shape just behind those feet? Do those feet grow bigger as my baby grows bigger inside? And, the happiness transferred to Karen at the sight of those little feet in moments of intimacy- the happiness that I could share a bit of my world with my unborn baby? Some people unpredictably become a part of the inside world to twist and turn and start it all over again to make a different story and Karen was one such person in my life.

I see, Karen immersed in a book and I absorb every details of the moment, his posture, the chair, the book cover, the coffee beside him- a hobby I developed long back, to make an archive of pictures from every day of my life. I take it out from there and look at it frequently, sometimes to scrutinize the flamboyance hidden in his posture, sometimes to check if his fingers look different now and mostly to ensure myself that they are all safe in my secret magicbox! When he glances up at me, frantically I pick my phone, run my fingers over it and as I see his eyes are still at me, I ask him, "Can we have a baby?" Without much thought, he says, "No." How abrupt! Has he thought over it earlier or am I living in a world of illusion, negating the reality that others think is true? I put back the phone and go back to my kitchen, the only place where I think I needn't be mindful of conquering Karen's space or tainting his aesthetic taste. He spends very little time here lately, especially as it has become cluttered leaving no space for us to sit together and have our tea chattering and savouring the silence around, like we used to. Now the only space left in the kitchen is made lively with a bunch of spring onions with flowers put in a carefully chosen tall glass holder and a purple and grey tinged white pigeon, who visits me without any fail in the morning and evening spending some time at the window sill.

Special.

Many things can be special in many people's lives for many reasons- In some cases, just because somebody experiences something for the first time, it's marked as "special".

It's yesterday, kunjunni started picking up consonant with a vowel- to say "amma"!!! The long sound of "m" when made with a little face with so much of expressions- of effort, excitement and eagerness is indeed a sight to be admired! I admire every little step of my child- there's so much to learn from him- those unfailing efforts to make a little noise, to see his toes, to watch his and others fingers move.

Day#1: The Touch

It's indeed a random thought, but it has something very intense to talk about. Like many other epiphanies that have roots in my relationship with my child, this too is one that I have realised just because I have seen how much a touch of my hand can soothe my baby.
Sometimes, if you carry a thought in your mind, you are likely to come across a lot more on the same thought in different ways and places. One such thing is the string of thoughts related to touch. It's when I watched Dr Abraham Varghese's video, on the need of human touch in the medical diagnosis, it struck me that it's so true- for I have seen my little one, when it could hardly breathe and settle down peacefully to sleep, a sheer touch of my finger could lull him to sleep. It's the same even now, when he has past 7 months.
I remember, when I was allowed to see my child for some minutes in the NICU at SAT, all I could see was a shimmering little creature- so fragile and quiet- at the very sight of him, my eyes welled up and I couldn't help crying. My fingers trembled when I tried to have a glimpse of his fingers curled up inside the oversized sweater. As my fingers went in search of his fragile little toes, the black patch on his right foot, just devastated me. The nurse asked me to leave the place curtly saying, this is not the place to cry, you can go out and cry!
When those teeny weeny fingers started to raise up to my face, all I could do was be grateful to life and God for having given me such a beautiful little life.
